A Strategic Audit or Strategic Industry Review is the term used for a review conducted by the regulator into a particular industry. Strategic Audits are conducted in industries where risks to the VET system have been identified. The regulator intervenes by conducting audits across the industry and reporting on the findings, making recommendations for improvement.

The use of strategic reviews allows the regulator to focus its resources on ensuring training being provided meets the Australian standards. ASQA aims to undertake three strategic reviews each year.
